14 January 2007 winter storm

The second major winter storm of this season strikes central Oklahoma. This storm also had a strong arctic front following excessively warm weather, numerous thunderstorms with sleet, and icing. It lacked the heavy snow that happened in late November. But the impacts to the state are more severe from the massive tree destruction in the east.

Glaze on vegetation around our property in east Norman. Fortunately most of our precipitation was sleet. We escaped the tree and powerline destruction in eastern Oklahoma.

Our concrete-like ice coverafter sleet and freezing rain fell over the last 3 days. We have about 2" of ice pellets, much that fell during thunderstorms.

The ice on our roof melted and refroze into icicles. Some of the vegetation twisted as the weight increased causing the icicles to bend.
