Anvil-induced boundaries

after Markowski et. al, 1998

  • There is evidence that the southern anvil shadow edge may result in significant baroclinity ahead of the storm.

  • The baroclinity can result in significant horizontal vorticity production, especially for flow with long residence times in the baroclinic zone.

  • Implications for increasing tornado threat?

  • Will work only if ground is exposed to sun outside anvil.
